Have you ever had a teacher who hovers? I sometimes wonder whether hovering translates into kids knowing I want them to do something more or different or if I always need to be really explicit and say, "I am standing here because I don't 'see' you doing anything". What do people think? I sometimes hover to see if my presence will change a behavior prior to making a statement that singles out a student. Hmm...
Movies in Lit. was a great time today and I think the group work was quite successful. Kids engaged in movie trivia in teams and then composed a funny tale using movie titles. In theater, I was pleased to see some fantastic monologues performed and everybody brought something unique to the written work. I'll be really fascinated to see how the personalities in that class- and in our subsequent performance- mesh. Working with Freyja is wonderful though and I think she'll be a great asset to our show. We are also going to be joined by a Hamline student who needs classroom experience/exposure so that should be awesome. The day ended with such fun-- the tech kids made two stages with legos, designing stages that were proscenium and theater in the round and had to demonstrate their interpretation of the play, "Anything for You" that we read yesterday. How hilarious to watch the high schoolers reveling in lego fun!

I think it's obvious that when a teacher hovers that it indicates that you need to be doing something, mainly because of "the look" that they usually give you that says "if you don't do something I'm gonna write you up." I think that reaching that point means that the teacher cares about the students, on a bit more than maybe an academic level, which is usually a good thing.
I really hate when teachers hover over me. They usually do that when I'm doing something I'm not supposed to be doing because I'm usually doing my work when I'm not doing what I'm supposed to NOT being doing, if that makes any sense. It makes me feel uncomfortable and irritable. :)
