4.20

Columbine changed how schools run, how teachers think, how students are perceived and treated. How do you think your life has been impacted by school violence?

I know that 4/20 is not only know for Columbine. What other significance does it hold for you and why?

Read on through the next several posts of mine. I've got a bunch.

For extra credit, one of my website links has an article about Columbine (NPR). Go there, listen it to/read and comment. There's also an interesting one about our president. Remark.

Happy Monday.

I don't like how people act like columbine was the first school shooting there were shootings in schools before that. It's just that Columbine was the type of school no one expected it at. thats the shock factor that the world got from that.Just makes me mad that a "ghetto" inner city school can have something happen and no one coughs about it. But a nicer school the same thing happens and the world craps itself. Just Grr... Also 4/20 is the police code for pot bust or something along those lines so people have made it into a pot holiday..Notice all the students gone?? lolz

Well, I didn't even know there was anything special about today because I don't pay attention to the outside world, only mine! Bad habit, I know. My life has been impacted in a way where I don't trust people as much and I'm scared to confront kids I don't know because I know how violent they can be. It's absolutely ridiculous and makes me mad. Coming to this school though I'm not as worried about any of that because everyone (for the most part) is accepting of everyone else. They know that it's actually O.K. to be different and if you don't dress 'ghetto' or dress in what everyone else is dressing in that you're not weird! I just think it's funny that people will look at me weird sometimes outside of my home and school like I'm some freak because of the way I dress but since when do you have to dress a certain way? I was on yahoo answers and said I was going to wear converse with my Prom Dress and this girl told me that I shouldn't because I'd be trying too hard to be different and spunky, WTF?? Since when is it considered to be 'trying too hard' just to wear converse with a dress?? People make me so mad! Wuw, I'm off topic, lol.

Twiggy, I think you make a good point that school violence is something new. I believe that Columbine was a terrible tragedy, but you are right to say that it was not the first and that the media attention was so strong- in part- because of where it took place and who the perpetrators were.
